Traits Of Successful Entrepreneur : Pua Khein Seng

Mr K.s. Pua Khein Seng gratuated with a Bachelor of Electrical control Engineering Degree with Honours in 1997 from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), and obtained his Master of Electrical and Control Engineering in 1999 from the same unversity. Mr K.S is the chairman and CEO of Phison Electronics Corporation, Taiwan, which designed and produced the world’s frist single chip USB flash single chip USB flash controller technologies releted to USB flash drive as well as flash memory cards and due to exceptional engineering strength the company is able to deliver solutions.

Pua Khein Seng was a visionary person. Why do i say so this is because  Pua khein Seng was work with smart partnerships and shrewd strategies, after that he was made its way into European, American and Japanese markets. Not only that one quick move was securing Japanese tech giant Toshiba as Phison's largest shareholder and customer. He and his partner launched Pen Drive in June 2001 and by August the same year.

As others successful entrepreneurs, Khein-Seng also start from the bottom of the salaried workers for 6 months at one of the local companies before inviting 4 other partners of his college to establish Phison Electronics Corporation in November 2000. This is why I consider him as a team-oriented entrepreneur of distinction for the five of them are very confident with their knowledge and abilities to start a business that focuses primarily on the USB technology. So, Khein-Seng and his partners managed to highlight their innovative products in the world after the first 6 months of their companies operation. For those who just turned 27 years old at the time and lack of experience did not prevent them from designing chips and a great system at that time.

Other than that, the trait of risk taker clearly showed when he decided to stop his studying in Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. At first he was planning to further study in Taiwan because the cost is much cheaper than in United States and Singapore. He never thought that he would be an inventor of pen drive and become multi-million people in Taiwan. Good performance shows in undergraduate make him been offers to continue his study in master. After completing his master, he worked with local company for six months before he take challenge to open up his own business. He started his business with another four engineer graduated from Chiao Tung university, creating world first business which focussed on USB technology.

Besides, outcome oriented is a term used to describe knowing what results are important and focusing resources to achieve them. Pua Khein Seng is an entrepreneur that practice outcome oriented. At first when he and his friends start their company, the shareholders promised to invest NT$30mil in their company. Unfortunately, the shareholders only invested NT$1mil and later opted to give up. After that, they target to get NT$6mil through borrowings and their own savings. At that time, venture capitalists were not exactly in a hurry to put money in the fledgling business.  With that, Phison got off the ground. In January 2001, an Australian customer approached the company on the possibility of producing a USB drive. This put Phison on the path to its rapid rise. Actually, there was already a USB drive but they invented the USB drive SoC (system on chip), which uses a single chip. At that time, he is only 27 years old. Despite this milestone, the company still had to face some problems. It was tough, for example, for a start-up with limited funds to attract talent. The company’s have since grown following its listing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 2004. It now has 430 employees, of whom 210 are engineers.

As the definition of observant which is quick to notice things, Pua Khein Seng decided to create a pen drive. Creating a pen drive in 2001 shows that Pua Khein Seng sees that the world need a better technology to store and save the information. He sees that people need a device which is smaller, faster, have thousands of times more capacity, and are more durable and reliable. Unlike the floppy disks and CD’s which are easily broken and scratch. He said that to grow further, we have to keep improving ourselves. We are our own worst enemy. We have to be patient and concentrate on the things we are doing.
